Biography: Julie’s introduction to the mental health field came as a case manager at a therapeutic community in Rock Springs Wyoming. Following this, Julie worked as a case manager in the Mesa County Criminal Justice System overseeing misdemeanor probation cases. Staying in the Mesa County system, Julie transitioned to becoming a certified addictions counselor and serving on the Mesa County Domestic Violence task-force. Continuing her community involvement in Colorado, Julie served as readjustment counselor for veterans where she specialized in substance abuse and intensive outpatient treatment. Julie served as a community liaison for Justice Involved Veterans. In the interim of working hard to serve her community, Julie found herself taking time away from the workforce to stay home with her daughter. After relocating her family to Georgia in 2015, Northeast Georgia Counseling was lucky enough to acquire Julie as an asset to our team of licensed counselors.
Experience & Specialties: Julie has almost 20 years of experience in the public sector of the mental health field, much of which was committed to serving commonly mistreated individuals in her own communities. Julie has been specializing as a substance abuse counselor for much of her career, where she has had much success in changing her client’s lives. Since her start at Northeast Georgia Counseling, Julie, a licensed professional counselor (LPC), has also specialized in anger management, domestic violence, and marriage counseling. Julie is skilled in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, and she is currently completing training for level 2 Gottman Method Couples counseling. Julie has a comfortable, pragmatic approach to helping her clients. She uses relatable terms to teach science based skills for growth. She is extremely capable at breaking down and motivating clients to make the necessary changes.
Education: Julie received her Bachelors of Science in Criminal Justice from Bemidji State University (Bemidji, Minnesota) in 1993. She went on to receive her Masters in Community Mental Health Counseling from Adams State University (Alamosa, Colorado) in 2010.
Hobbies: Julie loves the outdoors. When she’s not in the office, Julie loves traveling and exploring outside in nature. Some of her favorite outdoor activities include hiking and playing tennis. Julie also loves to spend time on one of our areas best outdoor landmarks, Lake Lanier. She enjoys boating, wake surfing, and swimming. When spending time with those who matter the most, Julie enjoys hanging out on her cozy patio with family and her two dogs, Kosmo and Butters.
