Biography: Mary began her career in mental health as a wellness consultant specializing in autism spectrum disorder. She worked with individuals and their families as an advocate and help develop and maintain wellness goals. This experience launched her into the mental health counseling profession with a passion for supporting families, individuals, and couples. Having worked with clients for five years, Mary has developed experience and expertise which has enabled her to work with a variety of populations. At the start of her professional career, Mary worked for a private practice with a focus on depression, anxiety, co-parenting, divorce, and parenting with ASD. She has been working with the Atlanta Autism Consortium and collaborates with other clinicians in the profession to gain insight and wisdom to be able to better support her clients. Mary meets her clients where they are on their journey and uses a strengths-based, solution-focused approach to facilitate change. She is experienced in helping clients enhance their quality of life through the use of developing organizational skills and restructuring abilities. Mary guides her clients through goal setting and modifications to help clients achieve their desired outcomes. With an authentic and pragmatic approach, Mary helps her clients view their concerns through a different lens. Mary joined Northeast Georgia Counseling in 2022 to offer her experience to families and individuals.
Experience and Specialities: With her experience in both mental and physical health, Mary is passionate about the importance of a healthy mind and body connection. Mary offers her experience to adults, couples, and families in a wide array of concerns such as anxiety, depression, confidence, life management, transitions, marital and relationship stress, and parenting. As a Gottman trained clinician, Mary works with couples to guide them through difficulties and transitions while working on communication, intimacy, and friendship. Mary also specializes in premarital counseling as a SYMBIS certified clinician to assist new relationships build a strong foundation before marriage.
Mary has experience counseling parents and works closely with other clinicians to foster progress and systemic balance. With an experienced background in neurological and behavioral disorders, Mary guides parents through the challenges of parenthood and assists families in developing appropriate goals and boundaries. Mary also understands the complexities of divorce and the trauma that impacts parents and children. She works alongside clients going through divorce and offers support for emotional healing.
Education: Mary graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Health Science in Exercise Physiology from the University of North Florida and was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She continued with her graduate studies at Liberty University where she graduated with high distinction and earned her Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She is a member of Chi Sigma Iota International Academic and Professional Honor Society. She is a National Certified Counselor and is a member of the Licensed Professional Counselors Association of Georgia as well as a member of the American Counseling Association.
Hobbies: In her spare time Mary enjoys reading, hiking, exercising, listening to podcasts, and rooting for the Atlanta Braves. She enjoys spending time with her teenaged son and mini schnauzer, Gimli.
